Did you know small leaks can waste up to 10,000 gallons of water per year? No plumbing problem should go unaddressed.

That’s why we’ve investigated everything you need to know about plumbing maintenance. That way, you can tackle any basic plumbing issue.

Now, without further ado, here’s a quick look at three common plumbing problems:

How to Fix a Running Toilet

Running toilets are easy to recognize thanks to the distant sound of the non-stop flushing process. The reason your toilet is running could be due to a loose flapper, broken valve, or loose pipe.

To fix this issue, first, check the valve. If the valve is loose, tighten it, and that should do the trick. If not, then you may have a faulty valve. You can replace it by ordering the part or going to any home improvement store. If your toilet is still running after replacing the valve, check the flapper.

Make sure water flows through when the flap opens; if not, you can purchase a new flapper and float kit. It won’t take any more than fifteen minutes to set up. Once replaced, ensure all parts are in good working condition, and your toilet should stop running after each flush.

How to Fix a Clogged Drain

Fixing a clogged drain is easy as one, two, and three. All you have to do is remove the sink stopper until the drain is exposed. From there, grab a drain snake and put it down the drain until you feel resistance. Then turn the crank to progress through the blockage and clean it out.

Once the blockage is removed, turn on the hot water for a few minutes to make sure nothing else is caught in the pipes. Then replace your sink stopper, and you’re done!

How to Fix a Dripping Faucet

If you notice your faucet is dripping, there’s a quick plumbing solution to remedy it. Go to a home improvement store and purchase a facet repair kit. A good kit will come with a new washer, o-ring, and a few tools you could use as well.

Start your repairs by taking off the handle with an Allen wrench or something similar. From there, you’ll need to use a wrench to loosen the packing nut and unscrew the facet body. Then you can remove the washer and replace it with a new one.

Next, remove the stem from the packing nut, and replace the o-ring as well. O-rings are notorious for causing leaks, so if you’re replacing the washer, it’s a good idea to replace the o-ring too. All you have to do next is put all the parts back together, and your dripping faucet is fixed.
